A Techie's life @ Calicut

Kozhikode (Calicut), a city in the Tier-2 list, catching the IT horizon. In old times, agriculture, fishing n industries stood as the major source of income for the city. Soon the industries shown a degrading phase n ends up. The trade at Calicut was once renowned to the world, but now its slowly gaining its popularity with the wake of IT.NASSCOM listed this City among the Tier 2 list, may be the next IT destination within ten years.

Here I introduce myself a usual crack gone behind the BTech stream like every youth who doesn't think different, just swimming along the stream. What i learned is different n what I’m working. Here I experimented a pure transition from the world of resistors/transistors/processors to the world of .NET in my home town Calicut.

I used to think what factors made me to adhere to Calicut. The reasons are very simple but conceptful,an endless list of arrears, losing the Tech interviews n like many. My race ahead for a job stopped me here in Calicut travelling across Chennai/Bangalore/Kochi.This was my first job(but second one in my profile).

In layman’s language IT ends in Wipro, Infy...n...Bangalore. They believe these are the last resorts of IT.They believe working in Metros settles down a person in life. They mix campus placements with Metros, Wipro/Infy.Even a small tea shop seller is familiar with the terms campus placements, IT, Metros etc. These guys screws up the confidence level of a great percent of the Unemployed BTech youth, like me once n not now at least employed.

So how can we think of working in Calicut in IT industry, when one comes from a locality of people who think like the laymans. Here we require strong confidence level to settle these mouths. We work with the latest technologies, going n participating through every step of Software life cycle processes including the hardware/software installations, working in teams. Here we are tied to every phase of life cycle. So what makes the difference between us n the guys working in Metros? They are involved in big processes/big teams/good packages and tied to any small phase of a big process. Their works go around those limits.

Metros guys spends their weekends in trekking..Hang outs with gals...Pubs...Multiplex...Forums,Garuda malls and many. Can anyone ever imagine how about the weekends of a Techie working in Calicut? Weekends goes with a Biriyani from Paragon...a couple of beers from KTDC...Hangouts in Focus mall...or beach. Films...Apsara...Kairali...Sree...a full day sleepy sunday. He can't ever imagine a hangouts with his gal, a couple of beers with her in Calicut, since the gals working here are 6.00 clock gals i.e. reaches before 6.00 PM in the house. ..Again a fully fledged start up week. But nowadays Calicut is showing the signs of a IT life, the booming malls are getting occupied...branded show rooms..Apartments etc.

The advantage of working here is lives within the family circle, relatives n at least this is our hometown, homely food. A great relaxation at home. Whenever I tell my friends workin in Metros that I’m here, they tell you are lucky, at least you reach ur home, homely food. For them home visit depends on the public holidays n family events.

Though the Work - life goes like this in Calicut, the dreams of Techies in Calicut are also big. We think broad from the narrow office both technically and personally.

When he started moulding his dreams...his careers...here comes a sudden "Recession" or "downtime"...This is life...a Techie..Life in Calicut........ups and downs comes unexpectedly……
